For this discussion, I would like you to give your reaction to Second Life. For many, Second Life is a very attractive thing. You can create the person you wish you were, act the way you want, and do it (seemingly) with no consequences.
Is this something that is attractive to you?
Discuss whether or not you would join Second Life. If you would join, discuss why: how you would use it, and maybe even what kind of avatar you would create. You don’t need to get too specific about what you would do, and you don’t actually need to join (though you are welcome to do so, and share your experience).
If you would not join it, discuss why not. What is it about a virtual world that you don’t like, that makes you uncomfortable, that you fear, or that just doesn’t interest you?
Either way, write about this as well: There are people who spend eight hours a day, if not more, on Second Life. If you were to spend eight hours a day on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Tik Tok, or Instagram, or a combination, would that be any different? Why or why not? Is there an idealized version of yourself that you present on social media? Are there several versions of yourself that you present, depending on the platform? Do you take advantage of the possibilities that a virtual or digital platform allows that you cannot engage in the physical world? Is there a difference between the self (or selves) that you present in the virtual world (broadly considered) than in the physical world?
